1. The New York International Fringe Festival
In the last weeks of summer before theater season picks up again, the performers of Broadway and off-Broadway productions come together for the Fringe Festival. This year’s 19th edition includes 1,100 performances of 200 shows during a 16 day period.

2. Blues BBQ Festival
The Hudson River Park will turn into a barbecue mecca on Saturday, August 22nd with some of New York City’s best southern restaurants grilling up their favorites. Texas and Carolina style barbecue like pulled-pork and brisket will be available from the cooks at Mighty Quinn’s, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, and Delaney Barbecue. Chow down on delicious food while listening to live blues and roots performances by Big Sam’s Funky Nation, John Németh, and Samantha Fish.

3. US Open
From August 31st to September 13th the tennis world will be watching New York as the U.S. Open is held at Flushing Meadow in Corona Park, Queens. Grab a ticket to hang out with the celebrity-studded crowd, listen to live music, and watch the top players’ matches.

4. Coney Island Sand Sculpting Contest
Grab your sunscreen and flip flops and head to the beach for the annual sand sculpting contest. From animals to mermaids to cityscapes will be created by experienced sand artists and amateurs alike. As you watch the sculptures come to life you can enjoy live bands, dance troupes, and even a magician!

6. Frida Al Fresco Evenings
The New York Botanical Garden is currently home to the FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden, Life exhibit. Though you can go and stroll through any day this summer, if you’re looking for a new experience you should check out the Frida Al Fresco Evenings on various nights through October. 7. The Water Table
Cruise through the New York harbor while aboard a historic ship from World War II and experience a dinner like never before. The ship, a Yard Patrol boat built for the US Navy in 1944, serves a New England based menu featuring delectable Main Lobster as well as craft beers, cocktails and wine.
